Staff Car Park Refurbishment

Project Overview

Following the successful delivery of multiple projects for one of our long-standing clients, Amphenol Ltd, Smart CI Group was invited to undertake the full refurbishment of their existing staff car park at their Whitstable facility.

Amphenol Ltd is a global innovator in interconnect solutions for the Aerospace and Defence markets. With over 60 years of experience, their products are designed for use in harsh environments worldwide. As a growing business, Amphenol required a car park solution that was fit for purpose, future-proofed, and capable of supporting both staff and operational vehicle movements safely and efficiently.

The Challenge

The existing car park was no longer meeting the client’s needs. Several key issues were identified during initial site visits, including:

● Ongoing surface water drainage problems

● Damaged and deteriorated tarmac

● Faded line markings impacting safety and usability

● An inefficient layout that limited capacity and vehicle flow

The client required a comprehensive refurbishment that would increase capacity, improve safety, enhance accessibility, and support modern infrastructure requirements such as EV charging, while ensuring minimal disruption to daily operations.

The Approach

Based in Kent, Smart CI Group was ideally placed to provide a responsive and hands-on service. Our team carried out a detailed site assessment and developed a clear, cost-effective proposal tailored to Amphenol’s operational needs. Once the scope and programme were agreed, works commenced with a strong focus on safety, quality, and efficient project delivery.

Scope of Works

Our construction team delivered a full end-to-end refurbishment, including:

● Surface water drainage improvements

● Resurfacing of approximately 5,700m² of car parking area

● Installation of new pedestrian footpaths

● Installation of EV charging infrastructure

● Full car park layout redesign

● Supply and installation of thermoplastic road markings

● Supply and installation of key clamp hand railing

● Design, fabrication, and installation of a bespoke motorbike and bicycle shelter

● Installation of reinforced concrete skip loading areas

The project was delivered in collaboration with Steadline Ltd and Sims Milling Services, whose support contributed to the smooth execution of the works.

The Result

The refurbished car park has been transformed into a modern, durable, and highly functional facility. Designed to accommodate up to 216 vehicles, the new layout also allows for safe HGV access and manoeuvring, improving overall site logistics.
